Brigshaw Trust Sports Awards 2016

12 children from KS2 were invited to attend our Sports Awards at Brigshaw High on Thursday evening. The event celebrated our achievements in sport across the year with other schools from our trust and recognised the achievements of individuals from each school. Well done to the children who achieved a trophy in the following categories: Sports Personality Award: Thomas M, Sophia T, Finlay H & Erin S Contribution to School Sport Award: Thomas B, Molly W, Finley A & Sophie D Leadership Award: Jacob C, Jasmine H, Rowan W & Kacey F

Brigshaw Trust Olympics 2016

Every child in Year 4,5 and 6 travelled to John Charles Centre for Sport to take part in our Olympics event with 6 other schools from the trust. The children had been working hard in their PE lessons in preparation for the different events; tag rugby, dodgeball, handball and relay races. The children worked very hard, showed excellent team spirit and came away with a first place for Year 4 dodgeball.

Year 2 Skipping Festival June 2016

Year 2 have been practising for the last half term ready for the Brigshaw Trust Skipping Festival. On Wednesday afternoon we walked to Kippax Sports Centre to take part in the festival which involved various skills such as double bounce, side swing and face to face. Our hard work paid off and we earned 3 Bronze awards, 2 Silver awards, 4 Gold awards and came away as the overall winners. Well done Year 2!

Year 4 Paralympic Event

Children in Year 4 have been using their PE lessons to learn and practise skills from different paralympic sports. After practising they took part in a competition at Kippax Sports Centre with other schools in the Trust. Different teams competed in curling, boccia, goalball and seated volleyball.

Brownlee Triathlon Event June 2016

30 children from Key Stage 2 were lucky enough to travel to John Charles Centre for Sport on Monday to take part in a Triathlon event as part of the Leeds Active Schools and the Brownlee Foundation. The event started with a short swim, then moved quickly onto an 800m cycle followed by a 400m run to the finish line. The children had a fabulous day trying something new and enjoyed celebrating with their medals at the end.

Meet our new Food Ambassadors...

Many children across the school applied to become a Food Ambassador for our school and these children were selected. At our first meeting the children were presented with their badges and they shared their hopes and aims for making our school even healthier. Everyone had lots of ideas on how we could ensure the children in our school lead healthy lives so watch this space!

Year 3/4 Sports Hall Athletics

A group of our year 3 and 4 children competed in the Brigshaw Trust Sports Hall Athletics competition. The children worked as a team to compete in running events, triple jump, long jump and speed bounce. The children showed excellent team spirit during the evening, well done!

Year 2 Multi Skills Competition

Our Year 2 children took part in the Brigshaw Trust Multi Skills festival. They competed in various running, jumping and throwing events as a team. We were very proud to leave the competition as the WINNERS!

School Games Orienteering

Our Sport Ambassadors organised our first house competition this week. The group decided on orienteering for our first event and asked for volunteers from each River Team in different year groups. The start of the event was delayed a few days due to the weather but here are some photos of the Year 6 event.

Sports Hall Athletics Semi Final

Our Sports Hall Athletics team were successful at the Brigshaw competition and made it through to the Plate semi final at Wetherby High School. The team took part in a variety of events and showed excellent team spirit, cheering each other on. Well done everyone!

Our new Sports Journalism Team 2015

On Tuesday our newly appointed journalism team attended a training session at Vicar's Court with other children from our Trust. Kacey, Kiadon and Cameron learnt about what their new role entails and how they could promote sport in and around our school community. Watch this space for match reports and updates...

Big Dance Big Sing September 2015

A group of KS2 children took part in the Big Dance Big Sing event in Millennium Square. This was held as one of the Rugby World Cup Fanzone events. Some children from Miss Paynes choir sang to 'World in Union' and another group of children performed a dance to the song. It was wonderful to be part of such a huge event with so many other schools from across Leeds

Brigshaw Trust Sports Awards 2015

On Wednesday night 12 children attended our first Trust Sports Awards evening at Brigshaw High School. The awards recognised children's commitment to sport, leadership skills and talents. Trust Sports Day 2015

Years 4, 5 and 6 went to John Charles Centre for Sport to take part in a sports day against other schools in our Trust. The day involved taking part in tag rugby, dodgeball and handball events and then ended with the relay races. Everyone enjoyed the day and one of our Year 6 dodgeball teams came away with first place!

Year 5 Bikeability
KS2 Swimming Gala

On our First day back after the Easter holidays we took part in a swimming gala with other schools in our Trust. The children competed in a variety of events and showed excellent team spirit. We came away with 8 3rd place awards, 9 2nd place awards and 2 1st places awards. Well done everyone!

Year 1 Multi Skills

Well done to Bobbi, Isaac, Archie, Zac and Jaxen who took part in the Year 1 Multi Skills event at Brigshaw. The event involved competing against other schools from our Trust in a circuit of activities including running, long jump and target throwing. Our team worked exceptionally hard to earn points and ended up coming FIRST!

Year 1 and 2 Indian Dance Workshop

As part of our topic we took part in an Indian dance workshop. We listened to the music, learnt all about the different moves and then linked them together in a sequence, thinking carefully about the different counts for each move. We then performed to our parents - they really enjoyed it!

Play Leader Conference 2015

Four of our play leaders attended a Play Leader Conference at Brigshaw High school with play leaders from across our Trust. The day involved team building activities, learning about the qualities needed to be a good play leader, trying to develop leadership skills and sharing ideas to further improve our lunchtime provision. The children came back very excited and were eager to get started with all of their new ideas.

Year 3/4 Sports Hall Athletics

A group of children from Year 3 and 4 took part in the Sports Hall Athletics event at Brigshaw. We competed against other schools from our Trust in different events like running, hurdles and speed bounce and earned points for our team.
